Miss Florida faces ugly reaction

Set foot in Florida's contentious medical-malpractice arena and you're bound to pay the price. That's what Carrie Mewha, Miss Florida 2003, found when she appeared recently at a rally in support of capping lawsuits for certain jury awards against doctors.

Mewha received at least 20 angry letters from victims of medical errors, according to the consumer-advocacy group Center for Justice and Democracy, which conveniently made copies of the letters available to the media. One letter suggests using a computer to alter a picture of Mewha's face to "show you what you would look like if what has happened to me happened to you."
